As keen campers and outdoor lovers, we really enjoyed the space. It had all the joys of camping with the bonus of creature comforts. The structure is creative and allows for views of trees in every direction. And who doesn't love an outdoor shower!
There are plenty of critters and animals, and the sounds that come with them. For us this was entertainment and part of the experience.
Janelle was very patient with us arriving late after getting lost, (no fault of hers, just us being over tired and silly).

It was the peaceful rainforest retreat that I was looking for. I loved the sounds of the rainforest at night and the space was perfect for a relaxing and peaceful connection with nature. Janelle's farm tour was a treat, getting a chance to see her little piece of heaven. Thank you! I already miss your space

Great place loved the peacefulness of it all, outdoor shower felt amazing everytime . It is 40 minute to Hilo but felt worth it for us .

My friend and I loved our stay at Janelle's! It was truly a unique experience. You are really out in the countryside/ rainforest, away from people. It really does feel like a retreat as you are surrounded by animals (cats, wild pigs, all manner of birds, frogs, etc) and the soundtrack at night is amazing. That said, this is truly more of a "glamping" experience than anything, so be prepared to spot geckos and frogs in your living space. It also gets quite damp and humid at night with the rain. We opted for one of Janelle's amazing dinners and it was probably our best meal in Hawaii. She is a superb cook and so entertaining to talk to!

This is not Father's Holiday Inn. This is a bungalow in the jungle on a working farm. A beautiful place. Comfortable. Relaxing. You have to want to be in nature, because that's what you're getting here. From the wild chickens and pigs roaming the grounds, to the geckos and frogs constantly talking. Especially at night. Fresh, organically grown fruit all over the place. So tasty. Comfortable bed. An outdoor shower, plenty of privacy, and plenty of hot, solar heater water. Cooking is limited to gas camp stove. Small refrigerator, but good size for 2-3 people. Easy drive back into Pahoa and surrounding areas.

We absolutely loved to stay at Janelle’s place! Felt at home since the moment we arrived. Janelle and everyone at the farm else were super friendly and helpful with us. We did a farm tour where we learnt about all the magic and healing properties of each plant around the property and a fruit tasting after. The cabin is absolutely adorable, completely surrounded by palm trees and coco palms 🥥 It’s in the middle of the jungle so expect jungle animals and their noises, if you don’t like nature than this place is not for you. Although if you love nature then I fully recommend Hawaiian retreat and we hope to be back one day! Thank you Janelle xx

I only marked it less than 5 for cleanliness because its so rustic. There will be lizards and bugs and ants etc. Its also pretty noisy with crickets and birds but again, thats to be expected and its really charming and a life experience to stay somewhere like this. Fresh fruit upon arrival is a lovely touch. Would recommend to my more adventurous friends. Outdoor shower is awesome.

Very picturesque. Rain forest type environment. Cold and muggy at night. Bring warm clothes for sleeping. Nothing dries off completely. Be prepared to drive a lot to get to areas of interest. We got heavy rain every night. No internet, proved to be challenging if you’re used to it. One set of cards only for entrainment. Take short showers hot water doesn’t last long. Host is friendly and helpful. For extra fee she made us a nice dinner.

The cabin was the perfect budget friendly glamping experience that we were looking for!

The farm stay was an awesome experience. If you want to experience true nature setting in the jungle of Hawaii this is the place.
